Risk and Reward: Enabling a Culture of Innovation
Conference: 10 June 2016, Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, Delegate fee £70
Museums and cultural organisations are facing significant challenges in the current, fast-changing environment: digital is revolutionising the way individuals engage with the world, the demographic make-up of society is undergoing a significant shift, and traditional funding models are no longer sustainable.
In order to turn these challenges into opportunities, museums and cultural organisations need to be adaptive, entrepreneurial and innovative. This one day conference will explore how museums and cultural organisations are changing their organisational cultures and encouraging their teams to try new ways of working, break down traditional barriers, and embrace risk.
Call for Papers
We would like to invite submissions from colleagues working in museums or cultural organisations which demonstrate how they are encouraging their staff to be more innovative and to take risks. This could be through programming, training, funding opportunities, interdisciplinary working groups or different approaches to staffing and organisational structures for example. We are interested in hearing about how we can accelerate innovation within museums and cultural organisations, the techniques you’ve used, how they have influenced the organisation’s working models, the risks taken, the rewards reaped and lessons you have learned through failure.
We are suggesting papers of approximately 20 minutes that share practical experience in a frank and open way. We would also be interested in sessions that take a different approach, whether a workshop, debate or roundtable – feel free to be creative in pitching your idea!
Proposals should be emailed to email@example.com by 8 April 2016 and should include:
- Speaker name
- Speaker email address
- Speaker job title
- A working title for your paper
- A short summary of your proposed paper (100-200 words)
- Additional notes on your session format (if relevant)
Successful papers will be chosen by a panel and you will be advised of the result by 13 April 2016. Speakers will receive a free place at the conference; unfortunately we are unable to cover travel expenses.
