Cultural Objects Worked in Skeletal Hard Tissues: Two-Day Material Identification Workshop 

8-9 April 2014, 9am-5pm, Museum of Natural History & Pitt Rivers Museum

This two-day course organised by the ICON Ethnography Group, in partnership with the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum, will be led by Dr Sonia O'Connor, Research Fellow in Archaeological Sciences at the University of Bradford. Encompassing theoretical and practical sessions, alongside opportunities for discussion, the materials covered will include ivories, bone, antler, and keratin. The structure, properties and decay of osseous materials in a variety of environments will be introduced. More details can be found here

The conference costs £150, and ASPIRE is offering 2 bursaries to attend, which will cover registration fees and up to £100 for travel and accommodation.

To apply for a bursary please send a letter - no more than 2 sides of A4 - to aspire@museums.ox.ac.uk with your name, organisation, job title and description, and a brief explanation of why you would like to attend the workshop including how it will change/benefit the way you work. The deadline is 14 March 2014.
