Museum Autism visit resources

This month the Oxford University Museum of Natural History have added new resources to their website to facilitate preparing to visit with a child with autism.

The museum is proud of its family friendly status but recognises that visiting with children on the autistic spectrum can be challenging. They hope that the resources below will help visitors feel more confident before they visit by providing a visual introduction to the museum and by highlighting some of its more sensory aspects.

The pictures in both guides should give a sense of the different spaces and displays in the museum. They focus on objects and areas that are unlikely to change much, but because of ongoing changes at the museum, these resources are a work in progress.

The museum is also preparing two designated Quiet Spaces.

They will be updating the resources later in the year and welcome any feedback in the meantime:
